London … Ohio … Featured in Latest Nike Commercial
By Toby Boyce, on July 26th, 2012
They say you don’t have to always do things great to get notoriety, sometimes it is all in your name … as London, Ohio, is learning right now.
[/media-credit] Nike Inc. on Wednesday released a new ad campaign, posted on YouTube, called “Find Your Greatness” that focuses on athletes in towns around the world named London, including the wrestling team of the London (Ohio) Red Raiders. (courtesy of Nike Inc.)
The city of 8,771 is county-seat of Madison County and about 35 miles southwest of Delaware, Ohio, will never be confused for its counterpart in England. Of course, unless you are Nike and looking to get around Olympic rules.
Great article in the Portland Business First, sister publication to Columbus Business First, on how Nike has circumvented Olympic rules by using “non-Olympic” cities (i.e. London, Ohio) in its advertising and only talking about athletes but not a certain “athletic event that is going on right now.
Tricky, and totally Nike’s style.
But, I’m all about getting all the press we can for small Ohio towns – like London – so go for it Nike.
