We – Delawarites that we are — love to spend time in Downtown Delaware, Ohio and sometimes its needs a bit of cleaning.
In preperation of the annual Delaware Arts Festival on Sunday, May 8, beginning at 7 p.m. volunteers will be cleaning downtown Delaware with hoses and brooms.
Volunteers will be sweeping dirt and debris into the gutters, which will be visited by the street sweeping machine later next week. They also will be using hoses (connected to fire hydrants, thanks to the Delaware City Fire Department) to rinse off the grime.
The fun will start at 7 p.m. on Sandusky Street at Central Avenue, and will generally work its way south. The work zone will include Winter and William streets between Franklin and Union streets. All volunteers are asked to bring heavy-duty brooms if possible; gloves would be good as well.
This project is being led by Main Street Delaware and the Delaware Arts Festival Committee, with support from the Northwest Neighborhood Association, the Delaware Fire Department, the city Shade Tree Commission, and the coalition of anybody else we can get to help.
And yes, they will document community service hours for young persons (of any age) owing them.
