Delaware Site of Annual Orchesis 2011 Production

Ohio Wesleyan University’s department of theatre and dance will stage “Orchesis 2011,” its annual dance concert, on Friday, April 15, and Saturday, April 16, on the University’s campus in Delaware, Ohio.

Both shows will be at 8 p.m. and take place on the Main Stage in Chappelear Drama Center.

“Orchesis 2011″ is under the artistic direction of Jill Becker, technical direction by Chad Knutson, and costume design is by Jacqueline Shelley. Stage management is by senior Carie Clark of Radnor.

Overall, the company includes about 40 students. The first half of this year’s performance, “Changing Light,” will explore various qualities of light, both natural and man-made, and the atmospheres they create. These dances, directed by Becker, are choreographed to music by Finnish composer Kaija Saariaho.

Choreographers for “Changing Light” include sophomore Kathleen Dalton of Litchfield, Ohio; junior Brittany Robertson of Wadsworth, Ohio; seniors Frieda Trovela of Morton Grove, Ill., Laurel M. Elliott of Phoenix, and Aryn Taylor of Athens, Ohio; and OWU faculty member Gregory Mack, an assistant professor in the Department of Physics and Astronomy.

The second half of the performance includes dances that explore emotions ranging from spiritual relationships and faith to human aggression. Choreographers include sophomores Tessa Cannon and Dublin’s April Warner; junior Brittany Robertson; seniors Rachel Spetrino, Gloria Clark, and Laurel Elliott; and faculty member Gregory Mack.

General admission is $10, $5 for Ohio Wesleyan employees, non-OWU students, and senior citizens. Admission is free for OWU students with a valid ID, courtesy of a grant from the Wesleyan Council on Student Affairs.

To reserve tickets, call (740) 368-3855 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays.
