Baby Cakes is one of the newest additions to downtown Delaware, Ohio, hence we figured it would be the perfect place to “restart” the DelawareOH365.com series.
Baby Cakes is a boutique cup cake company that bakes ten fresh flavors every day. Despite only being open about a month, the company was invited to audition for Cup Cake Wars on Food Network and recently packed the house for the taping.
Now, I’m not a huge cupcake person, but my wife and her coworkers at Delaware Cardiology are. So, on a recent day I pickede up a four-pack and shared it with the office on the condition they provide a review.
- Funky Monkey Cupcake (banana cupcake with chocolate icing). Strong banana taste, maybe event a little too strong, but the frosting was good not to sweet. “If you need your dose of potassium for the day eat a banana cupcake,” one of them quoted.
- Mint Chocolate Chip. A wonderful blend that provides a mint chocolate flavor. One thought iwas just as good as mint-chocolate chip ice cream, but for the price cupcakes could be a little bigger.
- Triple Chocolate Cupcake. A chocolate cupcake with chocolate chips and chocolate icing covered in chocolate chips looked like a sugar coma to me, however to the girls it was delightful. The chocolate chips added to the chocolate cake in a way that really made the chocolate stand out. Icing was super sweet – but what did they expect?
- Chocolate Peanut Butter Cupcake. The peanut-butter icing was excellent and was able to retain a bit of the peanut butter texture to really make it. The chocolate cupcake was a little light on chocolate flavor.
Baby Cakes is located on North Sandusky Street, two doors north of Winter Street, in beautiful downtown Delaware, Ohio.
