The third-annual The Patriot Golf Day will take place on September 3-6 at golf courses throughout the nation – including a few in Delaware County.
The event was born out of PGA professional and F-16 fighter pilot, Major Dan “Noonan” Rooney’s, second tour-of-duty in Iraq. Witnessing how far the nation had come since his first duty, he wanted to come up with a way to honor the 85,000 American soldiors that have been injured or killed during the conflict. In 2008 there were 4,000 courses that took part to raise scholarship dollars for our military families. The goal in 2010 is 5,000.
Patriot Golf Day® has raised more than $5.4 million in the past three years. In 2009, more than 4,480 PGA-staffed facilities participated in Patriot Golf Day.
During Patriot Golf Day, golfers nationwide are asked to donate a minimum of $1 to the Folds of Honor Foundation that provides post-secondary educational scholarships to children and spouses of military men and women killed or disabled while serving our great nation. To date, more than 1,163 scholarships have been awarded by the Folds of Honor Foundation.

Where can you play locally? Well two Delaware County courses – both in Powell – are registered and one about a mile south of the Delaware – Franklin County line is also on the list.
