The U.S. Open is coming to Delaware County on the weekend of September 4.

No it isn’t golf or even tennis. But rather the U.S. Open of Lawnmower racing.
The United State Lawn Mower Racing Association will hold an open contest at the Delaware County Fairgrounds over the Labor Day holiday weekend. It is open to anyone that has raced a lawn mower in the last 24 months and fits into one of its racing classes.
The event is free and should be a lot of fun. It will include a wide-selection of classes and vehicles from all over the midwest.
The slated schedule of events – but check their Web site for updates – goes like this:
Friday
- 8 a.m.: Open for Performance Mowersports Expo Setup
- Noon – 5 p.m.: Registration for Finals & U.S. Open
- 5 p.m. Seafood Throwdown Meet & Greet
Saturday
- 8:00am Registration for STA-BIL Keeps Gas Fresh Finals & U.S. Open Events
- 10:00-12:00pm Practice By Class (5 lap sessions)
- 1:00- 3:00pm US Open Class Qualifying By Class
- 5:00 pm STA-BIL Keeps Gas Fresh Finals (USLMRA Points Series)
Sunday
- 9:00am Breakfast and Awards Banquet
- 12:30pm Mandatory Drivers Meeting
- 1:00 pm US Open Qualifying By Class
- Heat Races by Class
- Feature races w/Trophy Presentation
The classes that are expected to participate include:
- JP (Kids Super Stock)
- IMOW (Adult Super Stock)
- AP (Mini Sportsman)
- SP (Sportsman)
- CP (Mod X)
- BP (Super Sportsman)
- FX (Pro X)
- U.S. Open Kids Stock (5mph max.)
- U.S. Open Super Stock (Un-governed Single FH or OHV and Shiftable Transaxle or transmission only)
- U.S. Open Single
- U.S. Open Twins
