Delaware City Councilman Jim Moore was tragically taken from us on Wednesday afternoon in a plane crash.
Flying – and the Delaware Municipal Airport – was one of Moore’s favorite things to talk about and was how I had the chance to get to know him.
I was part of the initial Delaware Citizens Academy class and Moore was a consistent face in the room throughout the program — the only Council member to go above and beyond.
However the pleasure was never more evident than on the DATA Trolley as we went from the road works department to the airport. That 15-minute ride was spent hearing all the benefits that the airport brings to Delaware — and how “nearly” self-sufficient it is.
The class was supposed to be over at 8:30 p.m. and I think it was 9:30 p.m. when I finally hopped in the truck to head home.

Moore’s love for Delaware – and the impact the airport has on this community – was always evident in his comments and actions. It seems very fitting that City Council is already discussing naming the airport he loved in memory of Moore.
A fitting tribute to a great man.
Just wish we weren’t doing this so soon.
