#17: Delaware County Humane Society

Sometimes, what makes a community a great place to live isn’t about where you go or what you do.

Humane Society Tahnk You

Sadie and Toby say "kudos" (and "woof") to the central Ohio community.

Delaware County and The Humane Society of Delaware County experienced one of those situations this week. On July 13 the Delaware County Sheriffs Office removed 89 dogs from a home on northern Delaware County. All of them were sent to the Humane Society and it overwhelmed the resources.

Amazingly, the outpouring of support from the greater Delaware – and Central Ohio – community saw all of the dogs adopted in less than one week. I say “bravo” to the central Ohio community for this amazing response.

Unfortunately in our American culture when the “news” leaves, so does our interest. And while it isn’t every day that the Humane Society has 100 dogs needing to be adopted — they have dogs and cats that needs to be saved every single day.

The Humane Society of Delaware County is a non-profit organization and receives no funding from the county or state and is entirely funded by the giving of those that support the organization.

The stress that the additional dogs placed on the Humane Society has led to an urgent need for a few items:

  • Kitten food
  • 50-gallon trash bags
  • Non-scoopable cat litter
  • Laundry detergent
  • Cat toys
  • Gas Cards

There are so many great things going on at the Humane Society that we all need to take a moment and help them out. They do such a great service for our community.

The Humane Society of Delaware county is open Tuesday through Friday from 1 – 6 p.m.; Saturday from 11 a.m. – 5 p.m.; and Sunday Noon – 4 p.m. For more information you can call them at 740-369-7387 or visit them online.

The Humane Society of Delaware County is located at 4920 State Route 37 East in Delaware, Ohio, about a mile west of the Alum Creek Reservoir.
