The Pelotonia Ride was a huge deal in Central Ohio in 2009 when legendary-athlete lance Armstrong took part in the ride.
Well, no matter how hard they tried the 2009 ride didn’t cure cancer. So, they still need your help and in 2010 the Pelotonia returns again. Delaware-county resident Kirby Hsu raised more than $3,000 during his 2009 ride and has plans to eclipse that in 2010.
Hsu has organized Kirby’s Cornhole for Cancer and Silent Auction to take place on Sunday, July 11, at Byers Toyota Delaware in Delaware, Ohio.
The tournament will begin at 8:30 a.m. — registration from 7:30 – 8:30 a.m. — and run throughout the day. Cost of the tournament is $30 per team if signed up by July 4 after that it becomes $40. Register online and put $30 in the donation amount (assuming before July 4), in donation recognition put “cornhole tournament”, and in the include an e-mail note add your team name.
Why is Hsu ding this? Well his “about me” section on his Web site gives us a great perspective:
As an avid bike rider, last year I participated in the Pelotonia raising over $3000 to help out with cancer research. This year, my wife Debbie and oldest son Michael (14) will join me in riding for this cause.
I am a father of 6 kids. We found out that we were pregnant with our oldest son right after we found out that my father had liver cancer. My father died months later as they were not able to catch it before it spread throughout his body. Debbie, Michael and I are riding in remembrance of him, who was never able to enjoy our 6 children.
A few years ago, my mother-in-law was diagnosed with breast cancer. Being in the healthcare field, I quickly queried friends that were doctors for where she should go for treatment. Conversation after conversation, they all pointed me to one place, The James. We got her in to see Dr. Farrar right away. Years after her surgery and follow-up visits, she remains cancer free. We are riding in celebration of the blessing of having her still around due to the work done at the James.
That makes this a great cause to support! I look forward to seeing a lot of you at the tournament on July 11.
Byers Toyota Delaware is located at 1599 Columbus Pike (US 23) just south of the Sandusky Street intersection.
