One of my favorite things about living in Central Ohio is the change of seasons. And since we are only days away from the official start of summer, today’s DelawareOH365 takes a look at two of my favorite Delaware County spring-time haunts.
Price Farms Organic and Miller’s Country Gardens have been part of our Spring-time planting virtually every years since we moved into our house in 2003.

Price Farms Organics, 4848 Warrensburg Road, is a natural recycling center using composting technology, according to its Web site. It offers a great blend of top soil and mulches at different stages of the composting stage. Our home is built on an extremely heavy clay soil, which makes working up the soil a lot of fun. Which is why I’ve been working Price Farms Organics’ “Barnyard Blend” into it the soil every time I break ground to enhance our soil — and now seven years later we are beginning to see a major change in these spots and how our annual grow.
Miller’s Country Gardens, 3488 State Route 37 West, has a wide collection of annuals, veggies, and roses. According to Miller’s Web site they carry more than 1,000 different types of veggies and I have to believe at least that many flower types. While there are some great local and regional flower shops in Delaware County, we’ve continually kept coming back to Miller’s for a couple of reasons.

- Great service. I’ve never had a question go unanswered.
- Wide Selection. I wanted to plant a single-flower family but not be “uniform” this year and Miller’s had a great collection of flowers that allowed that to happen.
- Great Prices. What else should I say?
- Classes and Trainings. Being a working farm it is working with different Central Ohio master gardener organizations and the Ohio State Extension to educate local planters.
- Working Farm. This is probably the biggest reason, I keep going back. As you drive into Miller’s Country Gardens you pass fields full of sweet corn — which will be for sale in fall.
We are now three days into DelawareOH365 and I hope that you are enjoying it. Share with friends, comment, tell me where to go – preferably someplace Google Maps can direct me to – or just give me some hints. There are 365 days for me to fill and I want to hit the common places, but also those “hole in the wall” off the beaten path places.
Just for clarification, I filmed this in late-May when I was planning to start DelawareOH365 so that’s why I talk about it “just being planted”.
