Delaware County Community Market - in Delaware, Ohio - is donating a portion of member's purchases to their favorite non-profit. (toby boyce)
I originally posted this article on Tuesday, but had issues with the video. They appear to be fixed now, so here is the original piece in the DelawareOH365 collection.
When the DelawareOH365 began to become a reality the hardest part wasn’t “what to cover?” but rather “What would be the first stop?”
As I worked through the ideas, one location just kept coming back to me.
The Delaware County Community Market on Delaware, Ohio’s east side. I know, I know. It hasn’t been around very long and to say that it embodies our entire county might seem a bit overstated. But play along with me for a second.

Let’s look at the goals of the Delaware County Community Market:
- Providing a low risk platform to increase sales for Vendors;
- Competitive pricing and donation tracking for Members; and
- additional sources of income for Nonprofit organizations within our community.
Still don’t think this store is a great microburst of Delaware County life? Well, I do.
The organization embodies a lot of great things – probably my favorite is that members have a portion of their purchases donated to the non-profit organization they chose. While Kroger and Giant Eagle fight over getting me to use my card to figure out what I buy — Delaware County Community Market is using it to support the non-profit organization of my choosing.
We recently had a chance to make our first visit and I was very impressed with the options. From the meat from Banks Market to fruits and veggies from farmers around the area. Prices were a little higher than you’d find at the mega-mart — but the fruit quality looked a lot better.
Delaware County Community Market is open Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m. and Saturday and SUnday from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. The Market is located at 222 East William Street in Delaware, Ohio. It is lo0cated just east of the William Street (State Route 36) and Lake Road (US 42) split.
