Delaware’s Been Challenged to Lose 10% in 2010

While visiting the Earth Day celebration on Saturday, be sure to stop by the Columbia Gas of Ohio booth and learn about a great program the city and Columbia Gas are joining efforts on.

Earth Day 2010

Delaware's taking on the challenge of dropping 10% of energy usage in 2010 (sxu)

The “Drop 10 in 2010″ program has a goal of reducing Delaware’s energy consumption by 10% the time the calendar turns on December 31. And Columbia Gas has several incentives to help the community drop its energy dependence.

  • Home Energy Audit. A highly trained home energy auditor will visit your home and inspect it from top to bottom to identify ways you can improve your homes more comfortable and energy efficient. The inspector will use infrared photography and a combustion efficiency analyzer to make sure your home is operating as efficient as possible. If you did this on your own, it would cost about $500, but if you sign up for it through Columbia Gas the cost is $50 — $20 for income-eligible customers call 877-644-6674 for more details — and will be reimbursed with any qualified energy upgrade.
  • Qualified Energy Improvement Rebates – The audit shows several things you can do to improve your home’s efficiency. If they fall in attic and wall insulation upgrades; sealing cracks, gaps, and holes; high-efficiency gas furnace or boiler; programmable thermostat; or a high-performance, energy-efficient shower head then you can have them upgrades them for up to 60% off the cost of the work or even free in some cases.

This is looking to be a great opportunity for the greater Delaware community to step up and show the world that energy efficiency needs to be more than just a buzz-word and can be done at modest costs.
