In honor of Sexual Assault Awareness Month, Child Assault Prevention Month and the Week of the Young Child the Prevention Team at HelpLine of Delaware and Morrow Counties is implementing a new pre-school violence prevention curriculum.
The Hands and Words are Not For Hurting Project’s Purple Hand Preschool Curriculum sets the foundation for youth participants to become lifelong peace makers. Two through five-year-old youth at Liberty Community Children’s Center will be participating in this multi-session program throughout April which helps them develop skills to establish healthy relationships and to respond to the human emotion of anger in healthy and helping ways.
The curriculum is grounded in the Purple Hand pledge, “I will not use my hands or my words for hurting myself or others.” Students make purple hands as a daily reminder of the commitment they make to themselves and others. In the end, students are able to identify anger as a feeling, and to understand that abuse and violence is always a choice.
