April is Sexual Assault Awareness and National Child Abuse Prevention Month. Throughout the month, HelpLine of Delaware and Morrow Counties, Inc. will be partnering with local organizations throughout Delaware and Morrow Counties to raise public awareness about sexual violence, child abuse and neglect, while encouraging individuals and communities to support children and families, and prevent sexual violence.
Please join HelpLine at one of the following awareness activities:
- Tuesday, April 6, 13, 20, and 27 from 6 – 9 p.m.. RAD Self Defense Class for Women. HelpLine and the Delaware City Police will provide the Rape Aggression Defense (RAD) system – a program of realistic self-defense tactics and techniques for women. RAD is appropriate for girls and women ages 14 and older. The classes will be held in the city of Delaware. To find out additional information about location RSVP to Shilo Gall at (740) 363-1835.
- Wednesday, April 21 from 9 a.m. – 12:15 p.m.. Sexual Assault Response Team. Provide new staff and service providers with an awareness and importance of immediate reporting of sexual violence Sexual Assault Response Teams are a mixture of various disciplines working together to prevent, recognize, and prosecute sexual violence. Location: Delaware County Bank and Trust Corporate Headquarters, 110 Riverbend Ave., Lewis Center. Cost: $45
- Thursday, April 22 from 6:00 – 9 p.m.. Stewards of Children Presented by HelpLine. Darkness to Light’s Stewards of Children is a revolutionary sexual abuse prevention training program founded in response to staggering statistics: 1 in 4 girls and 1 in 6 boys will be sexually abused before the age of 18. HelpLine is committed to protecting our children by empowering adults to prevent, recognize and react responsibly to child abuse through our Stewards of Children training. Designed for organization that serve children and youth, concerned parents and community members, the training teaches that protecting children is an adult’s job. Location: Andrews House, 39 W. Winter Street, Delaware. Cost: Free.
