Jonathan S. Landay, senior national security and intelligence correspondent for McClatchy Newspapers, will discuss “It’s the Region, Stupid: The Real Dangers of U.S. Failure in Afghanistan/Pakistan” in a noon presentation Thursday, February 25 at Ohio Wesleyan University.
Landay, who has written about foreign affairs and U.S. defense, intelligence, and foreign policies for nearly 25 years, will speak in Benes Rooms A and B of Ohio Wesleyan’s Hamilton-Williams Campus Center in Delaware, Ohio. The event is free and open to the public.
During his career, Landay has been nominated three times for a Pulitzer Prize for his investigative work on the Bush administration’s use of inaccurate pre-war intelligence on Iraq, along with the administration’s lack of post-invasion stability-operations planning.
In 2005, Landay was part of a team that won a National Headliners Award for “How the Bush Administration Went to War in Iraq.” He also won a 2005 Award of Distinction from the Medill School of Journalism for “Iraqi exiles fed exaggerated tips to news media.”
Landay returns frequently to report in Pakistan and Afghanistan, where he often embeds with U.S. forces. In 2001, he covered the U.S.-led intervention in Afghanistan, including the Battle of Tora Bora, and, in 2003, he spent four months in northern Iraq covering preparations for the U.S.-led invasion and then the invasion itself.
In addition to working as a senior correspondent for McClatchy Newspapers, Landay also has reported for United Press International, the Christian Science Monitor, and the former Knight Ridder newspaper chain.
His visit is sponsored by the Ohio Wesleyan University International Studies Program with support from the Departments of Journalism and Politics and Government.
