If an apple a day keeps the doctor away, then Delaware County residents like their apples.
Delaware County was named the “healthiest” county in the state by the Robert Woods Johnson Project and the University of Wisconsin which was released on Tuesday, February 17.
“These Rankings demonstrate that health happens where we live, learn, work, and play. And much of what influences how healthy we are and how long we live happens outside the doctor’s office,” says Risa Lavizzo-Mourey, president and CEO of the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, in the press release. “People, no matter where they live, should have the best possible opportunity to be healthy.”
Delaware scored No.1 in the state for health factors and health outcomes portion of the study.
Health factors in the County Health Rankings represent what influences the health of a county. We measure four types of health factors: health behaviors, clinical care, social and economic, and physical environment factors. In turn, each of these factors is based on several measures. A fifth set of factors that influence health (genetics and biology) is not included in the Rankings.
Health outcomes in the County Health Rankings represent how healthy a county is. We measure two types of health outcomes: how long people live (mortality) and how healthy people feel while alive (morbidity).
So go ahead and grab another apple, it does the body good.
