Helping Our Homeless On These Cold Nights

As usual, I got up and let Sadie head outside to do her business about 12:30 this morning. It was a beautiful night — very cold and crisp the warming smoke rolling out of the homes as the snow glistened below — Delaware, Ohio.

Then my heart sunk. What if it was all gone? How would I survive these nights of single-digit temperatures without a roof over my head and — just as important — a heater in the basement.

On Wednesday night, there will be a Spaghetti Dinner to benefit the homeless, but we can all do more.

Another Delaware organization is giving the homeless sleeping bags and they need our assistance. If you have any extra ties, old sheets (clean please), or clean blankets they can use them to assist our community’s homeless populations.

Irene Baird is willing to coordinate the collection of these goods and you can drop them off to her at 35 North Washington Street in downtown Delaware, Ohio.
