Delaware Snow Fall For Home Owners

Whenever snow blankets the sidewalks in Delaware, Ohio, the clock begins to tick.

According to a 1968 city ordinance, home owners are required to not “allow snow, ice or dirt to accumulate and remain, to the annoyance of the public, on that part of any sidewalk on which his lot, land or premises abuts.”

While their is no time-frame listed in the decree, those not removing the obstacles from the sidewalk will be charged the cost to remove it from their property.

City Snow Removal Schedule

The city begins to plow snow once three-inches has fallen- putting salt down until then – on city streets. According to the City of Delaware’s Web site street priority goes by:

  1. First priority is given to the State Highways, Emergency Routes, and Arterial Roads, Streets with dangerous hills or curves, and any road or lane which is blocked.
  2. Second priority is given to Designated Collector Roads, School Zones, and the Airport.
  3. Third priority is given to residential roads. Generally residential roads are cleared on a rotating basis, with crews starting in a different location in the city after each snowfall. Initial priority will be given to the next falling refuse collection day when the starting point is determined.
