Madrigals from Claudio Monteverdi’s Book 7 “Concerti” and Book 8 “Madrigals of Love and War” will be performed in the original Italian language. The songs have multiple parts and are performed without musical accompaniment. Monteverdi composed during the late 16th and early 17th centuries and was very influential in the early development of opera.

Opera Theatre performances will be held at 8 p.m. Nov. 6-7 and at 2 p.m. Nov. 8. General admission tickets are $7; tickets for senior citizens, students with valid IDs, and Ohio Wesleyan employees are $5. Call (740) 368-3700 for reservations.

Opera Theatre has been a tradition for many years for Ohio Wesleyan students participating in the Department of Music’s Opera Workshop Class. For the first time, however, a multi-media production will be part of this presentation, said Jason Hiester, Opera Theatre music director and an OWU assistant professor of music. The stage director is Tim Veach, artistic director of Columbus Dance Theater and an adjunct faculty member.

Students singing in the performance include: juniors Chantel Deane of South Dartmouth, Mass.; Jessica Spafford of Chicora, Penn.; and Lauren Spavelko of Pickerington; sophomores Sarah Kenny of Copley; Elizabeth Mommott of Cincinnati; and Keith Tankersley of Pataskala; and first-year students Michelle Christian of Orlando, Fla.; and Samantha Mason of Hiram.
