Gretchen and I recently had the chance to hook up the horses and take the wagon train out for some good old-fashioned BBQ, the best part was that we didn’t even have to leave the Delaware, Ohio corporation limits.
We enjoyed the flavor of Dickey’s Barbecue Pit on the city’s east side in Glennwood Commons development adjacent to the new Meijer and Kohl’s stores.
This is only the second Dickey’s to open in the state of Ohio – the other being in Newark – and offers a great blend of flavors that you’d expect from Texas-style BBQ. The original Dickey’s opened in Dallas in 1914 with a motto the company still holds to today, “Serve barbecue so good people will crave it. And don’t make ‘em wait too long to get it.”
Walking in the front door at Dickey’s the thing that makes you wait is the scent coming from the cookers where the pork, beef, chicken, and turkey are all basting away awaiting your selection. She went with the pulled pork sandwich, while I followed with the brisket sandwich. The pork was excellent, and the only issue I had with the brisket was that if you order it as a sandwich get it chopped as the pieces are nice and thick and can be a little chewy.
We went with the waffle fries and onion strings for our sides and was pleasently surprised by how little grease they had on them.
The meal was finished off with the complimentary ice cream cone and was a fitting end to our visit to Texas.

All Dickey’s locations will be offering $1 pulled pork sandwiches every Monday in Jan – Feb 2010. Great deal!
