The body of Army Private Zachary Myers is scheduled to arrive in Columbus Thursday morning. His funeral procession from the Columbus International airport will pass through the City of Delaware on its way to Westerville for Saturday’s funeral.
Myers, a 2006 Delaware Hayes High School graduate, was killed Sept. 8 while serving in Iraq.
The procession tentatively is scheduled to travel through the city between 11 a.m. and noon on Thursday. The route will be William Street to Sandusky to Lincoln to Euclid to Pennsylvania, then back to Sandusky to William and east to I-71. City police will escort the procession within the city limits. On Euclid Avenue, the procession will pass Hayes High School.
Area fire departments, led by the Delaware Fire Department, will have ladder trucks stationed at various locations along the route with ladders extended and U.S. flags attached as a salute to the fallen soldier.
To honor Private Zachary Myers’ life and service, Delaware Mayor Windell Wheeler has ordered that the flag of the United States of America shall be flown at half-staff upon all public buildings and grounds from dawn Thursday, Sept. 17 to dawn Friday, Sept. 18, 2009.
