You would have never known that Delaware had a sleep center, but it does. Right under your dozy eyelids at Grady Memorial Hospital.
I recently had the joy of spending two nights with the professionals at the Sleep Lab and have been seeing the positive effects ever since.
The Sleep Lab is usually booked over two days and mine began with a very-polite administrative assistant scheduling the appointment and explaining the details of my stay in a way that was easy for my ADD-riddled head to understand.
I was surprised when only a matter of days later I was called and asked if I’d be willing to move my test up to sooner date and I gladly accepted.
I arrived at the Sleep Lab at about 10:30 p.m. and had a good discussion with the staff on what was going to happen that night and then had a chance to read for a little bit before they turned me into Frankenstein with more than 30 items patched all over me. I was a little leery of sleeping with all this equipment attached to me, but it went better than expected and I was up and on my way home about 8 a.m. the next day.
I returned on night two, again about 10:30 p.m., and had the “joy” of sleeping with a CPAP machine. And while I might mock it, really did make a difference in how I slept and we tested several different masks out through the night to find the one that best fit my sleeping style.
They promptly had the results scored, read, and sent to my family physician for review. They ordered a CPAP machine for me and thanks to the great people at HomeReach, I’ve been sleeping happy now for about three weeks. I can feel an amazing difference on the nights when I don’t wear the machine and the ones that I do.
