As you make plans for the Independence Day holiday weekend, don’t forget to add Main Street Delaware’s July 3 “Celebrate Independents!” event to your must-do list.
This monthly First Friday celebration will include free sidewalk games and popsicles for children, courtesy of William Street United Methodist Church. In addition, hot dogs will be sold hot off the grill.
Downtown Delaware’s many independent stores and restaurants also will be open late for the First Friday celebration, scheduled from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.
During this fun, family-friendly event, people also will get their first look at some of the custom handbags being created by local artists for auction at our Aug. 14 Fine Art, Food & Wine fund-raiser. Past creations by these civic-minded artists have benefitted the Delaware County Fair and the Arts Castle.
While you are making out your holiday weekend calendar, you’ll also want to add the community parade and fireworks celebration, including the Central Ohio Symphony’s annual 4th of July concert. The parade will kick off at 11:30 a.m. from the fairgrounds and proceed downtown to Wilmer Street. The concert will begin at 8 p.m. in Ohio Wesleyan University’s Phillips Glen, and the city’s fireworks display will begin at 10 p.m., with viewing from Henry Street and the OWU practice field areas.
