The fourth-annual Race for Ellie will take place on Sunday at Liberty Park.
Ellie Kovalcik is a seven-year old that suffers from Complex IV mitochondrial disease with Leigh’s Disease. The disease affects her ability to speak, breathe, or write however she recently completed first grade with the assistance of a tutor.
Last year’s race brought out nearly 600 people and rached about $60,000, according to an article in Delaware News, and participation is expected to be even higher in 2009.
You can still sign up for the event through Saturday at First Fleet (1174 E. Powell Road in Powell) or in person the morning of the race. Cost of the 5k run or one-mile walk is $25 and the fun run costs $5.
Liberty Park is located at 2845 Home Road, near the intersection of Liberty Road north of Powell.
