Fundamentals is fun and educational! (photo from store Web site)
Sitting quietly along West Winter Street in downtown Delaware, Fundamentals has been putting the fun in education for almost 21 years.
Owner Tami Furlong opened the store in August 1988 and enjoys her downtown Delaware location.
“It (downtown Delaware) really is a jewel,” said Furlong recently in an e-mail. “We need to make sure people know about it and appreciate it!”
Well with stores like Fundamentals it is easy to explain what keeps downtown Delaware a vibrant place. The “bread and butter” of Fundamentals business is its children books, but the store is so much more.
“We have so many fun things in addition to children’s books,” said Furlong. “From toys (educational, quality toys), games, puzzles, teaching aids (for teachers, parents, and home schoolers), arts and craft items, globes, maps, and science items (test tubes, goggles, models, etc.). We special order if necessary, books arrive in a day or two, other items in about a week. We laminate (up to 24″ wide, any length, $1.00 per foot).”
In addition, the store will host authors and illustrators throughout the year along with fun events like the Turtle Lady and children’s book debut (for example, Harry Potter).
The store is located between Sandusky and Union Franklin Streets in downtown Delaware. Contact the store at 740.363.0290. Follow them on Twitter at funbooks or check them out on Facebook on their Fan Page.
