Getting Your Sweets in Shawnee Hills

I’d been driving by Shawnee Hills Bakery for at least a month now, well on Thursday night I finally stopped.

Sitting in the small retail complex at 9216 Dublin Road, just north of Glick Road, the Bakery has an unassuming feel but an amazing aroma.

We had a lot to choose from last night – cakes, donuts, cookies, brownies, and lots more.

The attendent suggest the “best brownies you’ll ever have.” And they did look good, but I was in a cookie mood. So I handed her my $7.50 and left with a White Chocolate Macedamia Nut, three Chocolate Chip, and two Sugar cookies.

The White Chocolate Macedamia Nut was a good cookie, differtent but still very good. Where many use whole nuts, this one had slivers that gave it a more subtle taste.

Probably the most unique is the sugar cookie. It doesn’t have the heavy sugar taste that many cookies of the same name do. I really liked the soft and subtle taste of the cookie, Gretchen was still deciding — though I noticed she ate the whole cookie.

My favorite, or at least tied with the White Chocolate Macedamia Nut, is the chocolate chip. These were amazing. Soft and yet they had a crisp bottom that gives the slight change in texture and flavor. The chips melt into the cookie.

We enjoyed a sample of their yellow cake, and it was possibly the best I’ve ever had.

Shawnee Hills is also a local distributor of Pittsburgh’s Mediterra Breads, which are baked in their ovens at 2 a.m. and on the shelves of Shawnee Hills by noon.
