Thanksgiving Feast or Excuse to Drink Wine?

Gretchen and I recently returned from a wonderful anniversary trip to Ashtabula County and Ohio’s exciting Wine Country.

If you’ve thought about going, on November 15 five of the  wineries in the Grand River Valley are teaming up to celebrate the “Turkey Trot”. The Turkey Trot, running from noon until 5 p.m., will be a progressive wine-tasting event that includes Debonne Vineyards, Ferrante Winery, Grand River Cellers, Laurello Vineyard, and Saint Joseph Vineyard.

Debonne and Ferrante will have their wines paired with our “friend” Tom the Turkey. Grand River Cellers will have wines that are wonderfully paired with the stuffing. Laurello will make a meal of the cranberries and provide wines that match the flavor. And finally desserts will be paired at St. Joseph vineyards.

The event is $4 per person at the east winery and will inclue wine samples, food pairings, and recipes.

Ashtabula County and the vineyards are about 2-3/4 hours northeast of Delaware off the shores of Lake Erie. It would be an easy drive on a Saturday morning, though if you plan to enjoy the wineries to their fullest — we would strongly suggest getting a room in the greater area for the night.
