Welcome home boys of summer!
The Indians opened the 2008 season with a 10-8 victory over the rivaled ChiSox today. It is always a very special day when baseball is on the television and being played all across this great land, but their is something special about opening day.
Just as the weather begins to turn in Central Ohio, the baseball fields come alive and the little white ball is tossed about and fans bundle up tightly to enjoy “snow delays” by the Ohio River or in Jacobs Fields.
What is the greatest baseball movie ever? I don’t know. But the Terry Mann (James Earl Jones) monologue in Field of Dreams is my favorite of all time.
As classic as James Earl Jones’ speech is, one of the greatest baseball songs ever has to be John Fogery’s “Put in Me Coach”.
And hopefully Peter Gammons was correct last night when he predicted the Indians would defeat the Braves for their World Series Championship since 1948.
