Valentine’s Day Edition of Delaware’s Best

In case you haven’t been by Hallmark since Christmas, Valentine’s Day is just around the corner. That’s Thursday for those of you that have forgotten the date (Feb. 14).

And sitting here in Delaware, Ohio there are a lot of options for what you can get the significant other.950019_valentine_blink_blink.jpg

  • A NIGHT OUT ON THE TOWN: Nothing says “I love (or like) you” like a night out on the town with a baby-sitter at home with the kids. How about reservations at NOVA and then heading on over to the Strand for a feature? Price should be about $50 (minus alcoholic beverages) for the evening.
  • A LONG NIGHT OUT: Just take the “Night Out” to the next level by scheduling an overnight at either the Winter Street Inn or Italianate Circa 1860s Bed & Breakfast in downtown Delaware. Who says you have to leave town to get away? Why not just head to the different era in either of these fine establishments?
  • TOUCHING HANDS: No, get your mind out of the gutter, I am not heading to Sirens – or whatever it is called now – but rather to one of the fine masseuses in town. There are lots of them from the Spa Retreat in the Kroger Shopping Center to Cheri Clem on N. Franklin Street.
  • WARM ME UP: It has been a cold couple of weeks in Central Ohio, so why not give the gift that is sure to keep you and your significant other warm in the morning – Trotters Coffee on West Winter.
  • DO IT YOURSELF: Is she a scrap booker? Surprise her and win some (if you are like me much-needed) Brownie points by making her card this year. Head to Cord Camera’s scrapbook section and take a few minutes to make a card. It will be much appreciated and the pay-off could be, well you know. Don’t want to go it alone this year, then head on over to Hallmark in the Westgate Shopping Center for a card that says it all in a “corporate” kind of way.
  • ON A BUDGET: I know that a few Ohio Wesleyan students (hi Erin) read this blog, and thought I’d pass along a little gift on the cheap. As usual for something to be “really” cheap it requires some elbow grease. I suggest visiting Etc. Etc. Antiques on East Central Avenue near The Point for some unique antiques, then adding your own personal touch to them with some paint from Hardware Exchange (N. Sandusky St. next to Pfeiffer) or Sherman Williams (W. Winter).
  • TRADITIONAL: Okay, so I was going unique, but if you are thinking traditional. Then I suggest Robinson’s Flowers on East Central or Bargar Jewelry on S. Sandusky for flowers and jewelry.

Well I hope that I’ve helped you at least think about some of our downtown businesses for your Valentine’s Day gifts!
