Delaware’s Offering Doggie Massages!
The business card jumped out at me at Trotters Coffee Company — Licensed Canine Massages.
Yep. That’s right. One of Downtown Delaware’s newest businesses includes dog massages. Cheri Clem, owner, is quick to point out that her shop on North Franklin Street isn’t ONLY for the dogs.
“I first of all would like to state that my services are not limited to canine massage,” wrote Clem in a recent e-mail. “I am a Licensed Massage Therapist, licensed by the State Medical Board of Ohio. Massaging people is my passion. Massage is so extremely beneficial and such an amazing form of therapy and healing, to me…it really is a form of health care. “
And that health care goes beyond just humans into canines. Clem decided to become certified in Canine Massage due to a strong love of animals and the benefits of massage as a healing practice.
“I wanted to somehow incorporate my love for animals with my passion for massage and bodywork as well as add something new and unique to my business that not everyone is doing (as of yet),” wrote Clem. “Animals, just as us humans become stressed and battle anxieties. Some have experienced trauma or bonding issues and they become stiff and sore with old age just as we do, they just can’t express it as we can.”
Clem’s dog sessions take place in different rooms from her human massages, and are very similar. She’ll spend a few minutes building trust with the animal – essentially “getting permission” from the dog and then moving forward to conduct a 30-minute massage for $30. If the dog can take longer than 30 minutes the charge is $1 per additional minute.
In addition to her canine offerings, Clem’s non-canine services include Swedish Massage (relaxation or deep tissue), Hot Stone Massage, Aromatherapy Body Wraps, and chair massage – which is excellent for at the office, parties, showers, etc. – at her 58 North Franklin Street location.
