Considering that going back to school is one of the top 10 new year’s resolutions according to About.com, I think a Delaware’s Best on the topic is in order.
The first one that comes to mind for most Delaware residents is Ohio Wesleyan University and rightfully so since its bee
n here the longest and the city and school have really grown up together. But there are a lot of other options — including Methesco, Ohio State, Franklin, and Columbus State.
Ohio Wesleyan University. Located in the heart of Delaware, OWU was founded in 1842 by members of the Delaware community and United Methodist Church. It has continued to keep its tradition close to its heart with Elliott Hall, the campus’ original building, still in use. OWU is a traditional liberal arts institution and is a great alternative for those able to go full-time. However it has limited offerings for those that can not attend on a traditional schedule.
Methodist Theological School in Ohio – Since the 1950s this campus along U.S. 23 has been the home of aspiring ministers and those just looking to use their faith to make a difference in the life of others. Today, you can continue the dream earning four master’s degrees and the only Doctoral program in Delaware County.
Franklin University - The “newest” of the Delaware school. Franklin is moving into the Floyd Brown Building at the corner of U.S. 23 and Cheshire Road on the city’s south side. According to the Web site, the Delaware offerings are still being decided.
Ohio State University. The Ohio State University at Marion has opened a branch location on U.S. 23 near Orange Road near Lewis Center in southern Delaware County. Th
Columbus State College – Not yet a player in the Delaware market with a local campus, it has plans to build a regional campus along U.S. 23 near the site of the new Grady Hospital.
Combine that with the great adult offerings at the two branches of the Delaware County Career Center and there is little or no excuse for not getting a better education in 2008!
