New Year’s Resolutions is this week’s topic for the first Delaware’s Best of 2008.
Why?
Easy, even those of us — like me — that claim to not make them, still do make them. It is a natural part of our culture. We know that we are over weight or not eating right or insert your own device here and we want to fix it — even if only for one day.
Using About.com’s list of top 10 New Year’s Resolutions, this week’s issue is going to feature Delaware’s best place to achieve your goals.
- Get a Better Job. Delaware has at least three temporary service companies and with the growth of the industrial park this is a town ready for those looking for new adventures.
- Get in Shape. From the World Gym on the south side to NewU on the west side and Curve’s in between this is a town ready for you to get into shape. Tossing in the numerous walking trails at city, township and preservation parks and there is little or no excuse (other than our great restaurants) to not be in shape in 2008. Grady Memorial Hospital also offers numerous great programs to help you not only get in shape but drop those pounds as well.
- Spend Less & Pay Down Debt. This is hard because it is so personal in regards to how it will be achieved. The Delaware County Bank and Trust has associates that can help you get on a budget and pay off those bills, as do the numerous other Delaware banks and financial advisers.
- Give Up Habit. Regardless of what you are giving up there is a program for you — and Grady Memorial Hospital - or its parent company Ohio Health - is sure to have a program to help you become habit free.
- Get A Better Education. This is easy. Regardless of whether you are pursuing your GED, Associates, Masters, or Doctorate there are options for you in Delaware. From the Career Centers adult education programs, to Ohio Wesleyan, to Franklin, to Ohio State Delaware, to Methesco. All you have to do is enroll (and pay of course).
- Find a Mate. I don’t know much about this one in Delaware as I never attempted to find a mate in Delaware. However, on the occasions that I’ve been at Red Rock, BW3, or Final Score on a Friday or Saturday night it does appear that their is a lot of finding a mate going on around here.
- Take a Trip. If you are a geek, as I am according to my wife, then your trips are going to be short ones to other parts of Ohio. However, for those of you looking to go further how about visiting the AAA travel center on Delaware’s south side?
- Be More Organized. I have to admit this is one of my goals for 2008. I am just overwhelmed by the options that I have to be organized. Office City, in downtown Delaware, has everything you need from scratch-and-dent filing cabinets to all the supplies to actually become organized. Now the hard part is up to me…
- Find a Hobby. Regardless of what you enjoy, there are options for you in Delaware county. A good friend of mine - Vicki Cocherl - offers knitting classes to those that want to learn to knit. Love baseball? The Cows are always looking for help and there are thousands of other ways to enjoy yourself in Delaware County.
- Buy a House of Move. Hmm…I’m not sure how we can achieve this one in Delaware :p
Do you have a different resolution? Well I’m sure there is a way to achieve your goals in Delaware — just get out there and experience it!
