One of the common discussions that come up every couple of years is that of a light rail system in central Ohio or one connecting Columbus with Cleveland and Cincinnati.
| The 3C connection is a long-way off and to be honest is probably a dead horse at least well into the next decade. However, a Columbus-area light rail system has continued to gain some momentum. |
According to a recent study by the National Association of REALTORS and Smart Growth America, Columbus is not alone. According to the study - which covered 1,000 US adults - 90 percent of the population favors providing public transportation including buses and rail.
I’m curious if Delawarites would use a light rail from Delaware to popular destinations around central Ohio?
The trend appears that people are realizing that building more roads doesn’t equate to less congestion - nearly 75 percent according to this study - and that alternative modes of transportation are the answer.
And no where is this any more obvious than heading north on U.S. 23 or State Route 315 at rush hour. And with the future expansion of Sawmill Parkway to the city, it doesn’t appear to be lightening up any time soon.
“Americans see smarter development patterns as a viable way to reduce the time they spend in the car,” says Don Chen, executive director of of Smart Growth America.
So would you be willing to leave on a train from downtown Delaware to go shopping at Polaris or Easton?

I think that there are a lot of obstacles for central Ohio to have this rail; and if it works here then it can go along the I-71 corridor and really become a great asset to Ohio.

I would LOVE a light rail. Think how much you could get done while getting into work if you didn’t have to drive. I currently commute from Delaware to downtown and the drive is sheer torture if there is even a drop of moisture in the air. People freak on the highways here. I would really appreciate the option to take a rail, miss the traffic, catch up on reading, or even catch some zzz’s on the way in rather than fighting traffic and adding to the pollution levels with all the other cars on the road. I’m sure a ton of commuters feel that way- especially those living even further from their place of employment. To summarize, I vote YAY on the light rail system
