Going Crazy at Charlie’s Bar & Grill

Heading to Wildlights at the Columbus Zoo, Gretchen and I slipped into Crazy Charlies Bar and Grill for a nice dinner.

Crazy Charlies, located at the intersection of U.S. 42 and St. Rtes. 257 and 745, is the former Walker Station Steakhouse in Bellpoint about six miles from the Zoo and Delaware.

Walker Station was a favorite of ours, however it was a destination restaurant that didn’t have the supporting community around it to survive. The food and service was always exceptional, but the price tag was only a special occasion type of restaurant.

Owners Robin and Charlie Walker realized the situation and adjusted their game plan. Welcome to the new “and improved” Crazy Charlies Bar & Grill. The menu still boasts its great steaks and, my personal favorite, the Calamari Steak.

But, the menu now includes a stronger sandwich menu that plays towards the bar and grill theme.

We began our meal with a 1/2-order of Crazy Beef Nachos ($5.95) which was highlighted by house-made tortilla chips. The beef was sparse but the cheese, sour cream, and nachos were enough to impress.

Despite being tempted by the 24-hour cooked New York Roll, the server compared it to a less-fatty prime rib, I went for the classic chicken sandwich and provolone with a side of french fries and their wing sauce. The sandwich was excellent when I added the wing sauce to it. The menu does include a buffalo chicken sandwich, which is battered and deep-fried which I hoped to avoid.

Gretchen enjoy the gyro with lamb and the house-made chips. The chips were excellent and she enjoyed the gyro so much I only got one small bite :-p

Dinner, with each of us drinking an iced tea, was less than $30 and the service was excellent.

Definately worth the trip to Bellpoint!
