As we took off for Hocking Hills, the decision was made to stop for lunch along the way. I wanted to get through Columbus before we stopped to eat.
However, I hadn’t expected the new 33 bypass to be as desolate as it was. My original thought had been to head to The Boot Factory Grill, located inside the Rocky Outdoor Gear Store in Nelsonville. Ahh, but as usual I’d underestimated the drive time to Nelsonville from Columbus.
So we stopped in Logan at the Millstone BBQ, which serves Southern style smoked barbeque. According to the “doorman” the facility has been there about a year, but the look is as if they’ve just opened up. A positive for the interior which is remarkably clean and well-kept. The exterior is still very clean, but they sit off on their own at the corner of Grey Street and the end of the world (a Dave Matthews reference). Okay, they actually sit at 12790 Grey Street right off 33.
We split the BBQ Egg Roll ($4.95) which was delicious with their smoked pulled pork and cabbage deep-fried and served with a special sauce (it tasted like a chipolte ranch dressing).
We both went for sandwiches, with Gretchen getting the Big Pig ($6.99) with a side of potato salad and I went for The Logan Loaded Pig ($7.99) with a side of sweet potato fries. They season and smoke their pork and place two types of BBQ sauce on the table for you to season it yourself. All of the food was very good. My only complaint was that the Logan Loaded Pig was painted to be similar to a Reuben, however they only gave you a sliver of cole slaw. The meat was excellent though and for the price we were very happy with the service and the overall experience.
They do offer some live entertainment on the weekends, but it was the food that was good enough to get us to return on our next trip to Hocking Hills.
