Delaware County senior citizens and disabled property owners need to file for a special homestead tax exemption on Monday in order to save themselves some cash.
The program allows those that are:
- 65 as of Dec. 31, 2007 or are totally disabled
- Own a home or manufactored home since Jan. 1, 2007
- Proof of age via driver’s license, State ID, or valid passport
The exemption will allow approved members the opportunity to receive an exemption on the first $25,000 of their appraised home value. If your home was valued at $100,000 you would be taxed as if was valued at $75,000.
You can download the form, and it will need to be hand-delivered to the Auditor’s Office at the County’s Hayes Administrative Office (140 N. Sandusky St.).

Is this exemption still in effect for seniors? If so, it should greatly benefit the seniors during this economy.
