Avesta Cuisine Leaving Downtown

Cooking Process - Anna Moderska (c)If you’ve been reading the comments today, you’ve seen the news. One of downtown Delaware’s most unique restaurants is leaving downtown Delaware this week.

Avesta Cuisine has closed its doors after not being able to reach agreeable lease terms on its location at 12 North Sandusky Street.

No report if Avesta will attempt to reopen at a new location in the area.

UPDATE: September 19

Today’s Delaware Gazette features an article by editor Jeff Robinson which adds more details. It appears that Avesta owner Avesta Saaty and the building owner, Michelle Platt, were negotiating over lease improvements when Platt issued a 10-day eviction notice.

The two continued to negotiate, but on Monday Saaty was told she had to close on Tuesday.

As to moving to a new location, a sign on the door of the current location says “We’ll be BACK!!”. However, Saaty is quoted as being less optimistic, “Do you think I can just move this to another building?”
