Heading to the Farmer’s Market

July 7th, 2007 · No Comments

farmers-market.jpgWe stopped at the Farmer’s Market this morning after stopping at Buehler’s for our customary Saturday morning doughnut.

You can tell that summer is upon as numerous vendors offered fresh zuchini, cucumbers, onions, squash, beets and more.

A couple of the vendors jumped out at us this morning

  • Mather Mountain - the salsa we sampled was great. A local company based on Kelly McMaster Road, we were torn between their pepper jams and salsa. The fact that we could order it online was why we passed and went with …
  • Something or Another - You want fresh? They mixed up the offerings last night and had it at the stand this morning. The stuff is not canned but rather has been “assembled” and is ready for immediate use. They have some amazing home made baked chips to keep them relatively healthy and offered two types of salsa, a vinergette dressing, and a version of sukatash. We chose the sukatash and had it bag-grilled over pork chops this evening and it was YUM-OH.
  • Meadow Crest Farm - This was Gretchen’s reason for heading to the Farm Market, as Marengo’s Meadow Crest Farm has the best Strawberry Jam on the planet and she bought them out of it. They only had three half-pints left of blackberry jam, so we collected one of them as well. Does Gretchen like it? “I’m going to go every Saturday and buy them out,” she said tonight at dinner.
  • Harold’s Homemade Dog Treats - Of course we had to find something for Sadie while we were there, and some homemade dog biscuits did the trick. These are $2.50 for a 3-ounce bag and Sadie has enjoyed them this afternoon.
  • Pies From the Heart - After having a doghnut and still trying to lose more weight, we passed. But oh they looked so good. Another local company, based on Troy Road, they bake pies daily and offer some great pies including the Buckeye.

If you have the chance, stop downtown next Saturday morning after 9:30 a.m. for a great selection of local vendors.
