Napa Valley, France, and Australia are known for their grape production, however in the past decade Ohio has gained a foot-hold in the competitive world of wine.
Ohio has long been home to different forms of fruit wines, and with Ohio’s varied growing climate from the shores of Lake Erie, to Delaware County, to the hills around Cincinnati, our grapes are getting noticed.
Haven’t tried an Ohio wine lately? Shame on you.
However, you have a great chance to get a way to Lake Metroparks Farm Park in Kirtland on August 3-4 from 1-10 p.m. and sample the best that Ohio has to offer. Vintage Ohio, the largest promotion of the year from the Ohio Wine Producers, allows consumers to sample the best of the majority of Ohio’s wineries in one location just outside of Cleveland.
However it is more than simply a collection wine, as their are numerous local vendors that bring out local products. All with their unique wine connection. Two years ago there were glass blowers, art, local hot sauces, and other food and crafters to be enjoyed with the Ohio wines. Don’t worry about drinking wine on an empty stomach as a large collection of restaurants will be on hand to fill your belly.
Need a break? Don’t worry entertainment and exhibitions will be taking place throughout both days of the event.
Tickets for an taste-testers (21-and-over) are $18 which offers 100 samples of wine throughout the day, a designated driver will receive complimentary soft drinks all day for only $10 and children are $3 for the day. Tickets can be ordered online or by calling 800-227-6972. Don’t drink and drive, so make your lodging plans when you order your tickets – the Red Roof Inn in Willoughby provided us a clean basic room two years ago.
It is a great time – and we should know as this will be our third year attending Vintage Ohio in the past four.
