Regardless of how much gas prices go up, it seems that it wouldn’t be summer in Ohio without a trip to Cedar Point Amusement Park in Sandusky, Ohio.
And with Memorial Day being the unofficial start of summer in Central Ohio, well it went together like peas-and-carrots.
Cedar Point is located on the shores of Lake Erie about 3-1/2 hours north of Delaware. Tickets are $41.95 for those able to ride all the rides and spending an entire day at the park is worth every red cent.
I’ve always been a roller coaster freak — despite being afraid of heights — and with Cedar Point’s reputation as “America’s Roller Coast” fits right in.
It does appear that the Point’s latest ride, The Maverick, has been delayed in opening until June (Or at least their Web site announced earlier, today is is saying that the ride opens May 29). Even without the newest addition, the Point does offer 16 other roller coasters of varying degrees of craziness to enjoy.
If you visit Cedar Point and make it a long weekend, Sandusky has a nice mall and is within easy driving distance of ferries for the Lake Erie Islands and Marblehead Light House among numerous other get aways (like Toby and Gretchen’s to Port Clinton).
If you do plan to stay, it is suggested that you plan ahead as the hotels can - and will - fill up quickly on weekends.
