Delaware Ohio’s Best: Hardware Store

April 3rd, 2007 · 1 Comment

The temperature gage has been unseasonably high and that has led to the grass being unseasonably high.

While Toby has refused to mow, several people around Locust Curve have made the decision to cut their lawn for the first time of the year. However, while Toby didn’t mow this past weekend he did enjoy some time in the garage doing little projects — building a bird-feeder.

And those projects invariably lead to a trip to the hardware store. What hardware store does Toby frequent most? And what is the best one in Delaware, Oho?

The Best: Delaware Hardware Exchange

Located at 141 South Sandusky Street, it is a locally-owned store that is in the classic hardware store image. They have just about everything, all you have to do is find it. You’ll pay a little more than you would at a Lowe’s or Home Depot but the money is staying in your local community. And Toby is willing to pay a little more to avoid the traffic of U.S. 23.

Runner-Up: Ace Hardware

This is the one that Toby visits most regularly, simply because of location — it is only 3-4 minutes down the road. Located in the Buehler’s Market, Ace was the best hardware store in town BEFORE being purchased by Buehlers. The new store just doesn’t feel like a hardware store. It still has most of what you need, however not the inventory they used to carry on Troy Road. The new store is a good place to shop, just doesn’t “feel” like a hardware store to me.

If I Were Closer: Sears Hardware Store

If location, location, location is the rule of real estate, then I have to argue the same is true for hardware stores. The Sears store carries just about the same inventory you’d expect from any hardware store and you pay a little more for the Craftsmen name - which in tools isn’t a bad thing. The store is located in front of Wal-Mart which makes it tough to purchase items there that I can get for cheaper next door.

Not a Hardware Store But Might As Well Be: TSC

Located on U.S. 23 north of Delaware, this is a store that suffers from a “not-in-site, not-in-mind” for a lot of residents in Delaware. However, based on the size of the addition they are currently building, there have to be a lot currently purchasing from the Tractor Supply Center. This is a great store. You can get anything you want for your yard, animals, and more. It is probably second to Ace on this list from Toby’s stores that he purchases from.

Did we miss something?

We didn’t include a couple of “tractor” shops — Ostrander Implements, Buckeye Tractor, and Miller Implement to name a few – in this discussion that are located close to Delaware for the most part because Toby has never been to them.

If we did, leave a comment and let us know what we missed.

I’m having some trouble uploading images today. We converted to IE 7.0 on the laptop last night and still learning the differences. Will post pics soon, I promise.
