Delaware County Named 13th Fastest Growing in Nation

The U.S. Census Bureau has released the fastest growing counties in the nation.

We’ve been among the nation’s fastest growing counties since the turn-of-the decade.

The County’s overall growth as a percentage is 13th in the nation, we’ve grown 42.5 percent from 2000. With counties with a 2006 population of 150,000+ our growth would be sixth in the nation.

Delaware ranks 89th in total population growth adding 46,708 residents from 2000-2006 to end with 156,697.

This growth around Columbus is made even more impressive when compared to a couple of our Midwest counterparts. Cook County, Ill. (Chicago) lost 88,000 residents, however Kendall County, Ill. (Aurora/Joliet) has gained 61.7% and is the second-largest growth in the nation.

While, Wayne County, Mich. (Detroit/Dearborn) lost 89,000 residents from 2000 through 2006.

Hard to believe that Maricopa, Ariz. gained 695,784 residents over the past six years and 3,000,000 residents since 1970.
