The future’s so dim for Buckeye Chuck that he didn’t need shades.
Toby, and about 40 others, were in attendance as Buckeye Chuck emerged from his cage and didn’t see his shadow to predict and early spring. Marion Mayor Jack Kellogg, presiding over his 16th and final Groundhog Day, proudly shared the word with the Columbus television stations — while Buckeye Chuck apeared to go back to sleep in his cage.
Buckeye Chuck is Ohio’s official Groundhog and it has been an annual tradition for many years in this city of 35,000Â located about an hour north of Columbus on U.S. 23. They celebrate with free coffee, courtesy of local restaurant The Shovel, and SPAM sandwiches.
Fortunately for everyone, Toby didn’t try the SPAM sandwich … they stopped serving them just before he got there.
With Delaware expecting its coldest temperatures of the season — and according to some the decade — we can only hope that Buckeye Chuck is right!
