In the “good old days” Delaware and Ohio Wesleyan University were a stopping spot for many of the great jazz bands and other cultural experiences. Then came the automobile and the 30 minute drive to Columbus’ attractions led to the decline in Delaware as a cultural destination.
Well, that is turning around. Delaware’s revitalized downtown is leading to new eclectic businesses and among those are a few new artistic endeavors. Unlike past weeks it is very hard to pick a winner for this week’s Delaware Ohio’s Best.
Best Place for Artistic Experience
The Ohio Wesleyan University’s Richard M. Ross Art Museum has transformed the old Delaware Post Office into a marvelous place to see great art. The Ross Art Museum always has amazing art work and is a must visit! While you’re on campus stop by the old underwear factory – now Edgar Art Hall - to visit the student exhibition area or the gallery in Beeghly Library outside of the Starbucks Coffee area on the main floor.
Best Location for Local Culture
The Delaware Arts Catsle is the areas’ cultural connection. The Arts Castle offers numerous opportunities for people to learn through their various classes. We have stepping stones all over, thanks to Gretchen’s classes at the Arts Castle.
The New Kid on the Block
The Poff Art Gallery is located on West Winter Street and has a lot of really neat metalwork and other art. They have a monthly Gallery Gathering and the next is coming this Saturday. This location really has a feeling of Columbus’ Short North in it.
Mark your calendars today as the Delaware Arts Festival occurs the weekend after Mother’s Day each May and vendors from all over the county descend on downtown Delaware for a wonderful weekend.
