Best Restaurants in the Columbus Area?

January 23rd, 2007 · 5 Comments

Maureen McCabe, a Realtor with HER, has posted a question on ColumbusBestBlog.com asking readers to submit their top-10 Columbus area.

My list includes:

  1. Columbus Fish Market at Crosswoods — I’m very picky about my fish, but I love this place! Fresh and wonderful. Expensive, but you get what you pay for!
  2. Der Dutchman in Plain City — what is it about riding around in those buggies that allow them to make such great fried chicken?
  3. Smith & Wollensky at Easton - Wonderful place to eat, but the bill is ouch …

These are numbered because, well they are in order. Want to make me happy? Any of these three will be great — especially if I’m not picking up the tab on the first and third.

  • Molly Woo’s at Polaris
  • Final Score in Delaware — best wing sauce!
  • Carabas Italian at Polaris
  • Tria in Powell — Neat Greek restaurant
  • El Aculpoco in Delaware
  • Red Rock Cafe in Delaware - $3.50 for a great burger and fries on Sunday, how can you go wrong? Shang Hi Chinese in Delaware’s Westgate Shopping Center. I had somehow missed this selection, not a big restaurant or expensive. But the Chinese food is in Rachael Ray’s words … Yumm-O!
  • White Castle — had to throw it in. They are so good, but oh so bad.

No numbers on these, because depending on my mood any one of them could be sitting in the fourth-spot. But of course my list couldn’t stop there.

Honorable mention: City BBQ, Hoggy’s, El Vaqueroz (I know I spelled that wrong), Potbelly … hmm … getting an idea why I’m in a weight loss group?

Of course the “old” Ocean Club at Easton will always hold a special place in my heart. It was the place that Gretchen and I went our first date, way back on Thanksgiving Eve in 2001.

So what is your favorite? Head on over to “Columbus Restaurants - WIN $1350 in ‘coupons’ ” on Maureen’s blog and have the chance to win a big-pack of food coupons.

Great list… I have never heard of Tria in Powell! I will have to try it.

I don’t believe El Acapulco at Crosswoods made my list, but that used to be my favorite before I started eating the chile rellenos at La Hacienda Real and we have gone back there a few times recently. There is a “buy one entree get one free coupon” for the three El Acapulco locations in the buncha coupons, I am drawing for.

I’ve never been to eihter Red Rock or Final Score.

It’s been years since I’ve been to Der Dutchman… there is a “buy one entree, get one free” offer for Der Dutchman in the coupons too.

Red Rock is just around the corner from us and it is usually one of those “where do you want to go?”
    “I don’t know, but I really don’t want to drive…”
“Okay, how about Red Rock or Shang Hi (another I can’t believe didn’t make my list!)…”

Shang Hi, should actually be on the list ahead of Red Rock…

Changes! I did a poll on my blog last year (Discover Columbus when it was Columbus Best Blog) of the best Chinese restaurants for the Chinese New Year…. I don’t remember anyone mentioning Shang Hi but it was mostly Polaris area , Worthingon, Dublin area Chinese restauarnts as I recall…

I love Chinese food but don’t usually eat at Chinese restaurants because I get sick… it is me not the food.

Why is there a line through Red Rock?

Because I replaced them on my list with Shang-Hi. RedRock is still a good restaurant/bar but I prefer Shang-Hi most of the time.
